Peffley receives University Research Professorship

Mark Peffley, professor of Political Science and a UKCPR faculty affiliate, was recently recognized with a 2019-20 University Research Professorship. The award recognizes faculty who have achieved excellence in scholarship or creative work. Peffley, along with UKCPR Director James Ziliak, was one of 16 UK faculty members who received the award.

Peffley studies racial and ethnic politics and political tolerance in the U.S. and abroad. His influential research on mass political behavior seeks to improve our understanding of the sources, content, and consequences of racial bias and political intolerance.

This is an award for everyone at the University who values the research mission and social justice,” said Peffley, who is the founding director of the UK Quantitative Initiative for Policy and Social Research.

Peffley’s recent research examines how terrorism increases political intolerance toward disliked domestic groups in Israel. The ongoing work, with co-investigators Marc Hutchison and Michal Shamir, examines the psychological and political underpinnings of intolerance in Israel and the U.S.
